Like a Mighty Wind
We have been given about twelve books to read before we go. The first one I read is Like a Mighty Wind. I find I am jealous of this mans simple childlike faith. He tells stories and speaks candidly to the western church about what we are missing out on. His stories are simple. God said this and then this happened. Things we might laugh at. It sounds a lot like Bible times. Lights leading them through a dark jungle to a remote village where they share the gospel and all receive, rain falling all around them but they remain untouched, walking on water, the church moving forward in power. It sounds so simple. God said this so we did it and then this happened. He is called to preach in the United States and he is immensely burdened for us. He tries to teach us to believe. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
"Most people have never known the reality of the power of the Bible in their lives, therefore they can't believe the entire Bible. But I praise God that the Holy Spirit can help you to understand the Bible as you read it. When I read my Bible, I just trust the Lord Jesus. If it says, jump, I jump without question. People might say I'm crazy or foolish, but the Bible says obedience is more important than sacrifice. We must obey our God. He's a living God and is working today. I like to obey because I love Him and it's a priviledge to obey the living God. I want you obey God with me. Let's bless the Lord. The Lord made heaven and earth. Lets bless Him."
This from a man who has seen the dead raised. lol.
"You cannot depend on the experience of John and Peter and the other men in Bible times. How wonderful their experiences were! But we still need our own experience. There are too many peope who are satisfied with the experience of John and Peter. This is the same as the young man who would be satisfied to never get married because his father was married."
"I thank God that when the revival started, He helped us see the Bible in a very simple way. The trouble with most of us is that we have to figure out everything with our minds, our little computers, instead of with our hearts."
"The important thing is to be foolish enough to believe God."
Holy Spirit we believe. Help our unbelief. Bring us to the place where we live on Your daily word to us. Let us yearn for Your voice and teach us to walk in childlike faith, listening to what You say and obeying quickly and easily. Forgive us for talking ourselves out of what we have heard You say. Show us Your Kingdom here on earth as it is in Heaven. Stir up our hearts to long for Your glory. Never let us be satisfied with less than what You destined us for. We are Your sons and daughters Lord and yet we are easily distracted by things that never satisfy. Yet we continue to search for we were made for You. Remind us Lord that there is more. There is more to be had of You. There is wholeness in mind and body, there is purpose, there is a war we are a part of and we must engage. Lord stir us up with a passion for Your name once again. Let us never be satisfied until we see Your Kingdom come on earth as it is in Heaven. We are desperate for You God. Open our eyes Lord. Open our spiritual eyes. Forgive us Lord for all of our wrong ideas about You whatever they may be. Show us who You really are. Show us who You really are. We make a place for You. Just come.
